Central Park and Kimberly Guilfoyle

Who doesn't have a tour of NY’s Central Park somewhere on their bucket list? I surely did. And I also wanted to take one of their famous carriage rides! In addition to settings for various movies that I figured I might recognize, I knew that landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted had helped design it. He had also designed the Biltmore Estate gardens in North Carolina that I have visited a number of times, so I was curious to see it. No wonder New Yorkers love going there.

A lot of people visit the perimeters of the park, but miss the Bethesda Fountain. I wanted to do both. During the carriage ride, I was able to get out to take a better look. The fountain is in the middle of a large terrace. It is capped by its famous Angel of the Waters statue. It is the work of artist Emma Stebbins, the first woman to receive a public commission for art in NYC. Her statue references the Gospel of John where an angel blesses the Pool of Bethesda, giving it healing powers. It is a beautiful treasure worth looking up to read more of the story behind it!

I later ran into none other than Kimberly Guilfoyle outside the Fox News building, I had always appreciated that she and I agree on a lot politically. She was, in fact, my #500 contact on my LinkedIn account. She kindly offered to have our picture taken together and put her arm around me like we were the best of buds. The photo of her in TV makeup and a great pink dress and me in a state of windblown disarray was snapped for all eternity. There’s probably a lesson there, but you sometimes have to just grab life with gusto and go for it.
