Today was another very special volunteer opportunity! McLean Bible Church joins Samaritan’s Purse each year to pack shoeboxes filled with small Christmas gifts for needy children. It is amazing how much happiness can get nestled into a shoebox! Pencils, a note tablet, small stuffed toys, stickers, soap and a washcloth, a toothbrush and socks were among the treats squeezed into each of about 5000 boxes—and as usual, lots of hands pitched in to help.
My own family had done this during the girls’ growing up years, so it brought back fond memories! It was also a day of gratitude for this new day in working together with church friends to produce something so much bigger than what any of us could have done individually. It was a satisfying way to participate in the 2017 Christmas season!
