The National Cherry Blossom Festival, which celebrates the beginning of spring here in Washington, DC, will take place this year from March 27th-April 15th. Peak bloom time is expected between March 17-March 20. I have been many times, and while the peak bloom days are breathtaking, the trees never fail to delight visitors.
The trees themselves actually date back to 1912. They were a gift from the Mayor of Tokyo to the city of Washington. They now bring 1.5 million DC-area residents and visitors from around the world to view them and see the sights throughout the city. And all people will converge at some point around the Tidal Basin’s Jefferson Memorial and the spectacular pink ring of blooming cherry trees. It must be the premiere spring selfie spot in America!
