Peak Cherry Blossom Time Is Finally Here

Finally, we are in the clear after last week's snow here in D.C., causing the date for peak blooms to be recalibrated. We finally have been able to welcome our iconic cherry blossoms!

What was unusual about this year's display was that the trees were more white than pink. Also, the Tidal Basin was covered in tiny white caps caused by today's strong wind off the Potomac. So it was quite different than the usual sunny days of the past where pink blooms have been a beautiful photographic contrast against a bright blue sky. But that didn't stop the tourists and their cameras! As always on a Cherry Blossom weekend, the area was filled with sightseers taking lots of selfies and group photos.

If you and your family are able, try to make the trip into Washington this year. There is always a host of activities to do, especially during Cherry Blossom time. Other monuments sit in such close proximity that they are easy to walk to in just minutes, making it an ideal family day. The MLK, Jr. Memorial, for example, is located to the left of the vantage point of this photo. You can find it by simply following the sidewalk!
