The Time to Try?

The strengthening American economy continues to inspire confidence throughout the nation. Small business owners in particular credit their increased hiring and expansion to the rollback of government regulations. By the end of 2017, agencies had issued a pleasantly shocking 22 deregulatory actions for every new regulatory action. Since there is a direct cause-and-effect relationship between business development and government overregulation, those with entrepreneurial goals can now create and operate start-ups more easily. Is now the time for you, too, to think about doing so?

Remember that a business typically starts on a very small scale. Today’s large companies such as Yankee Candle, Ben and Jerry’s and Apple all started on a miniscule level. Your local businesses likely did, as well. Consider asking their owner/operators to share their business know-how with you. They are treasure troves of experience, and many of them would undoubtedly be glad to impart some of their best advice.

One or more may even be willing to mentor you as you develop your ideas and plans. (Be sure to review this subject in greater depth in your Open Doors text.) I was fortunate to have people who did that for me. It was a real plus to learn how to avoid their mistakes and how to benefit from their successful strategies. That surely beat learning by my own trial and error. I hope that you are able to enjoy similar relationships, as well!
