Memorial Day in Washington

One of the things I value most about Memorial Day here in the nation's capital is the throng of people who arrive from all over the nation. Showing respect for those who gave their lives in service to both our country and others, and to preserve our freedom and way of life, remains an enduring American tradition. Flowers and mementos placed in memory of loved ones at Arlington, the Vietnam Wall, the WWII Memorial, and so on are vivid reminders that these men and women are never forgotten.

Today I remember my uncle Aurthur Brangs, lost during WWII in Germany, and my uncle Wesley M. Kuhns and cousin W. Scott Walls, both of whom served in Vietnam. I also remember the husband of my daughters' "Grammy," Vaughn A. Morrison, both of whom are buried together at Arlington National Cemetery.

Who are you remembering today that was special to your family and those you love? America as a nation remembers - and is grateful.
