A New Year - A New Decade

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope that it is a good one for you and your family.

Now that we're post-holidays, how are you approaching 2020 with the rest of your school year and, in particular, the entrepreneurial aspect of our Open Doors text, in mind? Before looking ahead to this upcoming year, let's pause to assess where we have been over the recent past.

A significant arena that affects us all is our economic situation. Our country has continued to experience unparalleled prosperity again this past year. "Jobless numbers" - especially among minority (non-white) populations - are historically low. Because of this, "consumer confidence" is extremely high, and the economy is humming along.

Both families and small businesses have greatly benefitted across America as a result. Such indicators are regularly reported on by business analysts in the media - television, newspapers, magazines, radio, Internet, etc. I like television's Fox Business Network for what I think is the most accurate sense of where we are as a country, economically speaking. You might look at some of its programming to further familiarize yourself with economic concepts and terminology.

We'll discuss some of the most important in future posts as we "unpack" the thinking of entrepreneurs who start businesses and the implementation of entrepreneurism. I think you'll enjoy this as a resource as you move through your Open Doors text!

Discussion Topics: What business information source does your family use, if any? Why or why not? This could be a great dinner table discussion, especially with Christmas (and Christmas bills) just behind us!
